    Piston Stager Model Rocket Kit

U.S. Rockets Piston Stager Model Rocket Kit

The U.S. Rockets Piston Stager stands more than six feet tall and incorporates a piston launcher into the booster. Flyers entering into contests ofter use piston launchers in place of a typical launch pad to increase the altitude of their rockets. A piston launcher works by trapping the exhaust gasses and using them to help propel the rocket. They also reduce the drag of the rocket by eliminating the launch lug.

This large kit employs a piston launcher built into the bottom stage of the rocket. An electronic device, such as a timer or an altimeter, is required to ignite the second stage which launches off the piston. The booster stage returns to earth under a parachute while the upper stage flies away.  At apogee, the sustainer deploys a streamer for recovery.

The Piston Stager comes with two interchangable motor mounts allowing the booster to fly on a single 29mm diameter motor or a cluster of three 24mm diameter motors.  The sustainer has a 24mm motor mount.

This kit includes instructions, but many of the specifics, such as how to mount and connect the timer or alimeter, are left to the builder to work out.  For this reason, we recommend this kit only for advanced rocketeers wo have experience using electronics and flying multi-stage rockets.
