Estes

Founded in 1958 by Vern and Gleda Estes, Estes Industries revolutionized model rocketry by inventing a machine ("Mabel") that mass-produced safe, standardized solid propellant engines. Originally based in Denver, the company relocated its headquarters and manufacturing to Penrose, Colorado, in 1961, establishing the foundation of the hobby.
Vern Estes realized that the key to making model rocketry a popular, safe, and educational hobby was providing modelers with consistent, reliable rocket motors. Before Mable, individual engines were often hand-packed and highly unpredictable. With mass-produced engines, Estes Industries expanded to design model rockets and starter kits that became a staple of STEM education and youth groups across America.
Estes offers a large range of model rockets from simple, Ready-to-Fly (RTF) rockets to highly detailed, scale-replica kits designed for advanced rocketeers. Estes's rockets are categorized by Skill Level to provide a safe, step-by-step progression for hobbyists.
Ready to Fly (RTF) & E2X (Easy to Assemble): (Skill Level 1) Pre-colored and require no gluing or painting. Perfect for beginners and quick launches.
Beginner / Intermediate Kits: (Skill Level 1, 2, 3) Require basic assembly using standard modeling tools. They involve gluing balsa wood fins and applying decals.
Advanced / Expert Kits: (Skill Level 4+) Multi-stage designs and cluster motors for complex flights.
Pro Series II: Mid-power rocketry for serious flyers.
