Vernon Estes designed the Orange Bullet before Estes released its first kit, the Astron Scout, in 1961. Vern added weights to the ends of the rocket's fins to balance it so that it would tumble down safely after the motor ejected. Workign with G. Harry Stine, Vern was able to refine the design so that the motor didn't eject. Instead, the motor slides backwards changing the Center of Gravity so that the rocket tumbles. This technique would be used later in the Astron Scout kit.

Sixty years later, Bill Stine, G. Harry Stine's son and current Estes Vice President, decided it was time for the Orange bullet to take flight again.

The Orange Bullet is the first rocket in the new Estes Designer Signature Series.
