Launched for the first time in 1981 as part of NASA's Space Transportation System Program, the Space Shuttle made history as the first reusable spacecraft and the first spacecraft to transport satellites to and from orbit.
The Space Shuttle completed 133 successful missions including launching and repairing the Hubble Space Telescope. The Shuttle carried components of the International Space Station into orbit and provided transportation to and from the Space Station.
